KDG and Telenet speed ahead with DOCSIS 3.0

Cable operators Telenet of Belgium and Germany’s Kabel Deutschland (KDG) have both announced the implementation of the DOSCIS 3.0 standard to raise maximum broadband internet download speeds to 100Mbps, Broadband TV News reports. The Belgian company will launch ‘Telenet FiberNet’ across its entire network, offering 100Mbps high speed internet from mid-March at EUR99 (USD135) a month. FiberNet is immediately available as a package together with an HD PVR and the fixed telephony flat fee rate plan FreePhone Europe for EUR120 a month. Telenet also plans to raise the download and upload speed for all current customers at no additional cost. Meanwhile, German operator KDG will initially offer its new service in Hamburg, but plans to expand the offering to the cities of Munich, Berlin and Hanover within six months, before eventually rolling it out across its entire network. Subscribers have the option of two packages bundling internet and telephony services with unlimited calling to domestic fixed line customers: the first offers 60Mbps broadband at EUR32.90 for the first twelve months, while the second provides 100Mbps internet for EUR42.90 per month.
