Merger in the third-degree? Minister demands examination of Telekom deals

4 Feb 2010

Slovenian economy minister Matej Lahovnik has said that he wants a review of Telekom Slovenije’s recent share purchases in Macedonia’s Cosmofon and Kosovo’s Ipko to clarify ‘suspected irregularities’, reports Finance.si. He went on to say that if the incumbent telco’s supervisory board members did not launch a review, the state in its capacity as a majority shareholder would propose an inquiry into the matter at a meeting of Telekom’s shareholders. Lahovnik said he believed that it is particularly necessary to check the legitimacy of the acquisition of shares of individual minority shareholders, although no further details were given.
