Canadian start-up cellco Data & Audio-Visual Enterprises (DAVE) has announced that it will launch commercial services this spring in Toronto under the name Mobilicity, reports the Globe And Mail. The company plans to roll out ‘value and unlimited plans’ across its spectrum licence areas covering ten of Canada’s largest cities. Targeting the lower end of the urban consumer market, it will initially offer pre-paid only services, whilst selling handsets ‘at cost’ without subsidies. Ericsson has been contracted to build the 3.5G HSPA+ 2100MHz network, with Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa scheduled for Mobilicity launches later this year. To provide wider coverage the newcomer has a domestic network roaming agreement with Rogers Communications and a US roaming deal with T-Mobile USA.
