2 Feb 2010

Telefonica de Brazil (including Telesp) aims to sell between 60,000 and 100,000 low-cost broadband lines this year under the so-called ‘Programa Banda Larga Popular’ project which is designed to provide inexpensive high speed internet access to lower income households throughout the Sao Paulo state, BNamericas reports. In a statement Telesp said the commercial launch of the new service would begin on 24 February: Telesp will charge up to BRL29.80 (USD16) per month for a line giving a 256kbps connection in the city of Sao Paulo as well as certain cities across the state. It will offer the service via cable and wireless technology.
