Telefonica Chile, which operates under the Movistar brand, has posted a net profit of CLP43.5 billion (USD82.9 million) in 2009, down 9.3% from the CLP48.0 billion recorded in 2008, the company said in a statement. Revenues fell 5% to CLP711 billion compared to 2008, mainly as a result of a drop in the fixed mobile interconnection charges introduced in January 2009. The company saw a 4% increase in broadband revenues and a 9% increase in broadband subscribers to 774,656. Revenues from pay-TV rose 11%, with an 8.4% rise in subscribers to 285,067. Corporate communications services revenues rose 5%. Lines in service reached 2.03 million with flexible plans, or lines associated with some other service such as internet, representing 80% of the total.
