Israel taking greater interest in Nepalese telecoms market

Israel is said to be interested in taking a greater stake in Nepal’s burgeoning telecoms industry, and in particular its nascent mobile sector. Local newspaper MyRepublica quotes Israel’s ambassador to Nepal Dan Stav as saying Israeli businesses are watching developments in the wireless market in Nepal and see telecoms as the most important sector for cooperation between the two countries. ‘Israeli companies are taking Nepal as one of the profitable markets where coverage of cellular phone is still at low level but has huge potential of expansion,’ said Stav. ‘They are already involved in some telecom projects in Nepal such as building telecom towers.’
