FET launches WiMAX in Taichung

US-based equipment supplier Motorola has announced that Far EasTone (FET) of Taiwan has commercially launched its WiMAX network in Taichung. As reported by CommsUpdate, the operator soft launched the network on 23 December 2009, charging users a monthly fee of TWD599 (USD18.50) for the service in a limited trial. Jan Nilsson, president of FET, said: ‘We are excited about the launch of the WiMAX service, which provides many possibilities to expand and tailor services for home and mobile users as well as business users and consumers. We are delighted to work with an experienced provider such as Motorola that has designed, supplied and deployed a high-performance and reliable network for FET.’ The telco is also rolling out WiMAX-based networks in Tainan and Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan during the first quarter of 2010.
