Broadcasters, cellcos lukewarm on mobile TV

26 Jan 2010

The appetite of French broadcasters and mobile operators Orange France, SFR and Bouygues Telecom for DVB-H mobile TV services is less than enthusiastic reports Broadbandtvnews. Next month the country’s media authority CSA is holding a meeting with interested parties to discuss the progress of mobile TV in the country, which to date has been somewhat underwhelming. It is more than 18 months since the authority issued mobile TV licences to 13 broadcasters, namely: TF1, France 2, France 3, Arte, Canal+, M6, BFM TV, Direct 8, Eurosport, i-tele, NRJ 12, NT1, Virgin 17, W9, EuropaCorp and Orange Sport. The CSA is understood to have also approached France’s recently anointed fourth mobile operator Iliad (trading as Free Mobile), to gauge interest.
