UPC plans to complete network modernisation

21 Jan 2010

Dutch cableco UPC Netherlands, which is owned by Liberty Global Inc in the US, plans to invest heavily in its infrastructure this year in order to complete the upgrade and modernisation of the final sections of its networks in South Holland and Gelderland. The operator notes that currently some parts of its network in these regions are ‘white spots’ when it comes to broadband access. Although customers can hook up to UPC’s network it is not two-way enabled, depriving them of access to broadband internet, digital telephony, or interactive digital television services. In a press release UPC chief financial officer Ritchy Drost said that as a result of the investment its customers would ‘have access to a future-proof broadband network with the fastest internet in the Netherlands, the most comprehensive interactive TV programming and digital telephony’.
