Vodafone Spain has reportedly invested around EUR50 million (USD71.86 million) in the deployment of a wireless broadband network offering download speeds of up to 1Mbps to all of the municipalities of Andalusia, according to Europa Press. The completion of the project, which was started following a tender award in February 2008, forms part of Vodafone’s commitment to the region; the cellco is investing around EUR150 million in the region each year. Commenting on the launch of the new infrastructure, Martin Soler, Minister of Innovation, Science and Enterprise for Andalusia, said: ‘This is a milestone in the access of new technologies on an equal footing for all inhabitants of Andalusia. With the deployment of this network by Vodafone, Andalusia becomes the first region in the world to provide universal access to broadband internet.’
