National mobile base dips 432k in 2009

MTI-ECONEWS reports that growth in the Hungarian mobile market stalled in 2009 as the total number of mobile phone subscriptions actually fell by around 432,000 in the year to 11.792 million by 31 December 2009. On a more positive note, the number of monthly contract subscriptions climbed 363,000 the National Telecommunications Authority (NHH) said. Taken overall, the national cellular penetration rate was 117.7% as at end-2009, down from 121.83% a year earlier.

In terms of active subscribers, the NHH reported a total user base of 10.931 million at the start of 2009, down 66,000 year-on-year. Vodafone’s share of active users rose to 22.54% from 22.27% in November 2009, while T-Mobile’s share fell to 44.43% from 44.64%, and Pannon’s dropped to 33.03% from 33.08%.
