Viettel posts 80% increase in 2009 revenue; hopes to offer iPhone from March

Vietnamese military-owned telecoms company Viettel has reported 2009 full-year revenue of VND60 trillion (USD3.2 billion), representing an 80% year-on-year increase, local newspaper Thanh Nien reports, citing a senior company official. According to Viettel’s deputy general director, Nguyen Manh Hung, the company aims to increase turnover by 60% in 2010 and plans to invest in a total of 15 countries by 2015. Viettel also provide services in Cambodia and Laos, with revenue from these markets reaching USD70 million in 2009. Meanwhile, local media are also reporting that Viettel is finalising an agreement with Apple to see the company’s iPhone in Vietnam from March, becoming the country’s official distributor of the handset.
