Romtelecom to acquire New Com

According to a report by Broadband TV News, citing Romanian financial daily ZF, incumbent telco Romtelecom is close to sealing a deal, worth as much as EUR14 million (USD20.13 million), to purchase triple-play firm New Com. Through the deal, Romtelecom will take on around 70,000 customers across Transylvania and Bucharest. In 2009 it acquired networks covering a further 30,000 subscribers from Net Com. The deal is being carried out via Romtelecom’s cable arm NextGen Communications and is expected to be approved by the Competition Council once terms have been agreed by the two telcos.
