Fiji cuts MTR rates

Fiji has announced the reduction of interconnectivity rates between mobile network operators effective immediately. The current mobile termination rate (MTR) rate of FJD0.28 (USD0.1482) per minute has been cut to FJD0.23, as the wholesale rate which will be charged by operators for cross-network calls. The chairman of the Commerce Commission, Dr Mahendra Reddy, also revealed that the interconnectivity rates for both mobile and fixed termination rates have been determined and made effective as at 17 November 2009. For landline termination rates, the maximum rate will fall from the current FJD0.099 per minute, to FJD0.079 and will stand at FJD0.045 at the end of three years.
