MetroPCS adds 1.3 million subscribers in 2009

Dallas-based mobile operator MetroPCS has announced that it has added 1.3 million net new customers to its subscriber base in the twelve months ended 31 December 2009, ending the period with a total of 6.64 million. The cellco, which deals exclusively in non-contract, pre-paid deals added that churn in the fourth quarter of 2009 was 5.3%, up from 5.1% in the same period a year earlier. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, MetroPCS is the fifth largest cellular operator in the US, holding a 2.32% market share at the end of September 2009.
