Apollo upgrades North Atlantic capacity

12 Jan 2010

Apollo Submarine Cable System has announced the award of a supply contract to Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade Apollo North and Apollo South Transatlantic systems. The upgrade will increase Apollo’s equipped capacity by more than 400Gbps and is incremental to the upgrade of 1Tbps on Apollo South in 2008.

Initially constructed with a design capacity of 6.4Tbps, currently installed technologies allow Apollo to be upgraded to in excess of 10Tbps. Richard Elliott, managing director of Apollo said: ‘During the last year transatlantic capacity demand has remained strong throughout the economic down turn. It remains Apollo’s goal to support this growth and to continue to develop the scale and capability of our product to maintain our position as a leading provider of international network.’
