State-owned telco Copaco says it plans to spend USD25 million in 2010 to deploy a wireless network. BNamericas, citing local newspaper Ultima Hora, quotes company president Mario Esquivel as saying that mobile services will be available by the end of the year under the Copacel brand, and that coverage will include the country’s main cities as well as all department capitals. The report also states that Copaco will open a bidding process before the end of March to select the vendor for the rollout project, and that the winner will have six months to deploy the network. Esquivel said that to achieve full nationwide coverage would cost in the region of USD75 million.
