Movistar to begin LTE deployment in 2H 2011

5 Jan 2010

Venezuelan mobile operator Movistar plans to begin deploying LTE infrastructure in large cities across the country during the second half of 2011, reports BNamericas quoting the company’s networks and infrastructure VP Juan Comerma. However, the company is still awaiting an allocation of the necessary wireless spectrum to launch LTE. ‘To achieve this [LTE deployment] we need to have low frequencies,’ the VP was reported as saying by local press, whilst other factors affecting a commercial launch date will include price and availability of LTE devices.
