ISPAK presses PTA for intervention over PTCL broadband activation

The ISP Association of Pakistan (ISPAK) has reportedly claimed that fixed line incumbent Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) is causing difficulties for other internet service providers (ISPs) relating to the installation of DSL connections to the latter’s customers that are using PTCL’s copper network. According to local news source The News, ISPAK contends that PTCL has failed to connect DSL services for rival ISP customers for around five days, with the incumbent claiming that such inaction was the result of upgrades to its systems designed to make the provisioning system automated. Commenting on the matter, ISPAK spokesperson Wahaj-us-Siraj said: ‘We have approached the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for immediate intervention but the PTA’s response was unclear…The PTA said that it was investigating the matter whereas the matter is clear, required no investigation and a clear directive from the PTA should have gone to the PTCL keeping in view the gravity of the situation but nothing has happened so far.’

Shortly after however it was announced that the PTA had advised that the issue had been taken up with PTCL, with the latter claiming that it was switching to an automated system so that customers requests could be auctioned in a more effective manner, while arguing that running both manual and automated systems in parallel had opened an increased risk that mismatched records could cause further complications.
