CAT to get paws on Hutch's CDMA network

4 Jan 2010

According to local newspaper The Nation, Hutchison Telecom has agreed to sell its CDMA network in Thailand to CAT Telecom. The report, which cites comments made by CAT chief executive Jirayuth Rungsrithong, claims the operator will offer between THB5 billion (USD148 million) and THB7.5 billion for the network, and that it has already informed the country’s telecoms regulator about the proposal. Assuming the purchase plan receives approval from the necessary authorities, CAT plans to upgrade the network in 25 provinces to the EV-DO standard. The enhancement is expected to take around five months to complete, at which point CAT will launch the service under a new – as yet unannounced – brand name.
