Bayanat rolls on with WiMAX rollout

Bayanat Al-Oula, the data arm of Saudi Arabia’s second largest mobile operator, Mobily, has announced that it has expanded the reach of its WiMAX services to Mekal, Al Yamamah, Al Salam, west Uraijaa, Al Rayyan, Zahret Al-Badea, Al Khaleej, Araka and Al-Maezlia, Al Hazm, Oum Elhamam Al Gharby, Soultanah, Al Aziziyah, Al Marwah, Al Khalidiya, Zahret Labn, Al Chemissi, Al Dar Albidaa, Al saada, Al Swedey, Labn, Shubra, Al Swedey and Al Gharby. Dr. Eyas S. Al Hajery, Bayanat’s director, said that the company is working non-stop to build up complete coverage of major cities in the Kingdom. Bayanat’s national WiMAX project is part of Mobily’s drive to make the internet available to everyone in Saudi Arabia. As reported by CommsUpdate in June 2009, Bayanat contracted Samsung for the network deployment in a USD100 million deal, previously launching the service to ten major markets in the first phase of its network rollout.
