Mobile internet users on the networks of Rwandan wireless operators MTN Rwanda and Rwandatel reached 112,000 in November, local daily the Business Times reports. Last month, South Africa-based MTN counted 73,000 mobile internet users on its network, while rival cellco Rwandatel, which is 80% owned by Libyan government investment vehicle LAP Green Networks with the remainder held by the Social Security Fund of Rwanda, posted around 39,000 wireless internet users. Cleophas Kabasiita, corporate communications manager at Rwandatel, said that the company is targeting over 60,000 mobile internet users in 2010. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, MTN Rwanda was the country’s leading cellco by subscribers with a market share of around 78% 30 September 2009, followed by Rwandatel with a customer share of close to 22%. A third mobile operator, Millicom Rwanda, launched commercial services in November 2009 under the Tigo banner.
