VMAX and FET receive WiMAX licences

17 Dec 2009

Taiwanese regulator the National Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that it has awarded regional WiMAX operating licences to VMAX Telecom and Far EasTone (FET). In Taiwan, once operators are allocated spectrum, they must achieve 70% coverage of their respective region before applying for permission to launch commercial services. After receiving an operating concession, the firms have six months to launch. FET plans to launch WiMAX services in Taichung city, in central Taiwan, in the second half of December.
