TI targets broadband expansion with CuboVision

16 Dec 2009

Fixed line incumbent Telecom Italia (TI) has announced that it has launched a new integrated broadband and digital TV service in an attempt to expand its broadband customer base, Reuters reports. The company described the ‘CuboVision’ service as: ‘a single broadband multimedia device that lets you watch your TV channels on digital terrestrial TV and the main web, get movies on pay-per-view and manage personal content like photos, videos and music.’ The device will connect to both fixed line and satellite networks simultaneously to deliver the service. TI CEO Franco Bernabe said: ‘Our goal is to expand the number of internet users, take them from twelve million today to 20 million. There are eight million broadband-enabled lines, which are not currently in use… Our goal is to create a product that is able to bridge this gap.’
