Timor Telecom revises year-end mobile subscriber target

15 Dec 2009

Timor Telecom (TT), a subsidiary of Portuguese telecoms company Portugal Telecom (PT), has revised its mobile subscriber target for the end of 2009 after the company gained an additional 50,000 customers in just one month, Portuguese news source Diario Digital reports citing TT’s executive director, Manuel Amaro. As of 13 December, the company reached 312,000 mobile customers leading TT to raise its year-end target from 320,000 subscribers to 330,000. The cellco’s recent success has been attributed to the launch of seasonal campaigns and promotions. The popularity of TT’s promotions exceeding the company’s expectations has reportedly led to some problems however; a recent campaign allowing customers to send SMS for free left many unable to use the service after the system could not handle the extra traffic.
