14 Dec 2009

Bahraini broadband provider Mena Telecom has signed up more than 33,000 WiMAX subscribers after a year of commercial operations, it said in a statement, reported by Trade Arabia. Mena, an investment subsidiary of KFH-Bahrain, was the first company in the world to launch a nationwide commercial network using WiMAX 802.16e (mobile) technology, said its chairman and KFH-Bahrain CEO Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat, who added that it had recently increased capacity by an additional 50% to accommodate its increasing subscriber base. ‘Mena Telecom has exceeded all forecasts and achieved in one year what was anticipated in three,’ he noted. The company offers packages for both home and business users with speeds of up to 15Mbps.
