Russia’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers Vimpelcom has announced the launch of a trial DVB-H service in Moscow, Broadband TV News reports. During the trial period, Beeline subscribers with a DVB-H-compatible handset will receive the service free of charge. The service will be initially be broadcast within the Moscow Ring Road and will offer ten channels at launch: Channel One, Rossiya, Vesti24, NTV, St Petersburg Channel 5, Bibigon, GamelandTV, 7TV, Muz, RUTV and A1. Once operational the service will cost consumers RUB150 (USD4.9) per month, with two additional packages of entertainment channels available, with the total cost being no higher than RUB500 a month. Vimpelcom is also in talks with other handset manufacturers, such as Nokia and LG, to boost its range of compatible devices.
