Malaysia’s smallest mobile network operator by subscribers, U Mobile, has inked a domestic roaming agreement with DiGi Telecommunications, the Business Times reports. Under the terms of the deal U Mobile will gain access to DiGi’s nationwide GSM network, and will allow the former to expand its portfolio of voice, SMS and data services across Malaysia. The three-year deal is conditional upon U Mobile ending its existing domestic roaming arrangement, which it signed in June 2007 with second-placed Celcom, and it may be extended for a further two years at the end of the initial term. U Mobile is also required to place a deposit with DiGi as part of the agreement. Commenting on the deal DiGi said: ‘By increasing the traffic volumes through the contribution of U Mobile traffic, DiGi will benefit from increased utilisation and network efficiency. It also reflects DiGi’s commitment to support the government objectives to foster healthy competition in the telecommunications industry with efficient usage of assets through sharing.’
