RomTelecom launches IPTV; contracts Ericsson for managed services

Romania’s dominant fixed line and internet operator RomTelecom has announced the launch of its long-awaited IPTV service, ‘Dolce Interactiv’, Broadband TV News reports. As reported by CommsUpdate, the incumbent first announced that it had launched trial IPTV services in February 2009. The service, which was deployed by Swedish vendor Ericsson, is initially being made available in ten cities and will be optimised and calibrated over the next few months, as new features are added. The first ten cities to receive the service are: Bucharest, Iasi, Constanta, Timisoara, Bacau, Cluj Napoca, Piatra Neamt, Sibiu, Ploiesti and Braila.

Meanwhile, the operator has announced that it has awarded a five-year managed services contract to Ericsson. RomTelecom will hand over responsibility for part of its field operations to the Swedish company from 4 January 2010. Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will be responsible for corrective and preventive field maintenance of switching and power systems.
