Bezalel boosts MIRS offer

10 Dec 2009

The race to acquire Israeli iDEN operator MIRS Communications shows no sign of slowing following reports that local businessman Hezi Bezalel has increased his offer for the operator, Globes Online reports. It is understood that Bezalel has now upped his bid for the trunking operator to USD200 million; the offer is thought to have been made through Israel-Africa Horizon Ltd. Having returned to Israel to centre his operations in the region, Bezalel is reportedly seeking to consolidate his position with the potential MIRS acquisition, although it is believed that he could later bring in a strategic partner if he is successful gaining control of the cellco. The move is likely to kick start another round of bidding, after French businessman Patrick Drahi, bidding through HOT Telecommunication Systems, in which he holds a 45% stake, looked set to claim victory having offered around USD165 million for MIRS earlier this month.
