Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) has issued an operating licence to Global Mobile, enabling the company to start offering WiMAX services, DigiTimes reports. As reported by CommsUpdate on 6 October Global Mobile completed its initial network rollout in Hsinchu, Northern Taiwan earlier this year and plans to launch its first mobile WiMAX services in the first quarter of 2010. The network covers 95% of the city’s population and was built using equipment supplied by Canadian firm Bridgewater Systems. Global Mobile also plans to rollout network infrastructure in Taipei. According to DigiTimes, Far EasTone (FET) and Vmax Telecom are expected to obtain operating licences before the end of the year, while Vee Telecom is likely to receive one in 1Q 2010.
