According to Business Times, Malaysian WiMAX operator Packet One Networks (P1) has inked a deal with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the provision of broadband services in underserved areas. P1 has been awarded a Universal Service Provision (USP) project tender worth approximately MYR41.5 million (USD12.3 million), under which it will be required to roll out its WiMAX-based broadband services in the Perak and Kedah states. Separately P1 also revealed that the deployment in 2010 would include the provision of broadband services to residential properties, as well as the construction and management of community broadband centres in the regions.
