Iliad launches French broadband offensive

2 Dec 2009

French alternative operator Iliad (Free) yesterday launched a low cost ‘triple-play’ – broadband internet, TV and voice telephony – offer in France for less than EUR20 (USD30.13) per month under the Alice brand, breaking an unspoken EUR30 price barrier in the domestic market that has existed for seven years. Reuters reports that the company’s announcement comes just weeks after rival cableco Numericable unveiled plans for a similar offer, and could place pressure on larger rivals France Telecom (Orange), SFR (neuf Cegetel) and Bouygues Telecom to cut their own tariffs.
