BSNL could be ‘banned’ from using Chinese firms in border states

According to Dow Jones Newswires the Indian government has proposed to forbid state-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) from procuring telecoms equipment from Chinese companies in ‘sensitive’ border areas of the country. The country’s communications ministry told parliament yesterday that the list of sensitive areas includes Indian states bordering Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Telcos reportedly expressed concern at the plan, which remains under consideration, lawmakers were told.
