Telenor Sweden selects NSN for HSPA+, IP network upgrade

30 Nov 2009

Telenor Sweden has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to upgrade its entire 3G/3.5G mobile network. NSN will deploy its Flexi Multi Radio Base Stations providing HSPA+ capability with maximum downstream speeds of 21Mbps across the radio network, and upgrade the core network to increase both capacity and Telenor’s ability to deliver high speed mobile broadband services nationwide, including the implementation of IP connectivity and a common register for GSM, 3G and LTE (4G) access. The Finnish technology giant will also provide network management systems along with project management, planning and optimisation services.

‘Our ambition is to build Sweden’s best mobile broadband network, responding to the huge demand on the market to provide high-quality, high speed services,’ said Lars-Ake Norling, CEO of Telenor Sweden. ‘Supporting Telenor Sweden in its efforts to ensure everybody in the country can have access to a broadband connection is in line with our own market vision of broadband everywhere in a few years,’ said Aril Aanonsen, Head of Telenor Customer Team at NSN, who added: ‘The Swedish market is world leading in its mobile experience and we are confident we can bring further scale and improved quality to Telenor’s mobile broadband services.’
