Slovenian triple-play cableco Telemach has completed upgrades to parts of its HFC network using Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) equipment from optical solutions provider Transmode. Transmission links upgraded by the Transmode installation include routes into the capital Ljubljana from Novo Mesto, Kocevje and Trbovlje, and between eastern cities Murska Sobota and Gornja Radgona.
Also this month, the company said upgrades to its network using EuroDOCSIS 3.0 technology will be completed in certain areas, including Ljubljana, Maribor and Velenje, with the rest of the network expected to be upgraded by March 2010. Maximum speeds of cable broadband internet connections will eventually be raised to 120Mbps/10Mbps (download/upload) via the new platform, with the operator also planning to offer a 50Mbps/5Mbps package option.
At a press conference on 18 November Telemach announced its rebranding from its previous name UPC Telemach. US-based Liberty Global Inc completed the sale of the cableco to Mid Europa Partners in July 2009, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
