25 Nov 2009

Vodafone Greece has announced that it will launch a commercial HSPA+ upgrade to its mobile network in partnership with China’s Huawei Technologies by the end of December, boosting theoretical peak data speeds to 28.8Mbps (download) and 5.8Mbps (upload). Maximum real-world peak end-user download speeds recorded in independent tests of the new HSPA and MIMO network configuration are around 22Mbps, but typical speeds will vary considerably based on localised factors. Mobile broadband services based on the upgraded platform will initially be available in selected areas of Athens, with plans to expand to other areas of Greece during 2010. Vodafone Greece is also in the process of expanding mobile broadband services in urban areas across the country based on HSDPA 14.4Mbps and HSPA+ 21.6Mbps technologies.
