Mobistar snaps up KPN’s Belgian B2B assets

25 Nov 2009

Following recent rumours that Dutch telecoms group KPN was considering divesting some of its Belgian operations, it has been announced that mobile network operator Mobistar, a subsidiary of France Telecom, has agreed a deal for some of the assets. According to Reuters, KPN will sell its fixed line business-to-business carrier activities in Belgium, including its fibre-optic network, for EUR65 million (USD97 million). Commenting on the decision to sell off parts of its Belgian operations, KPN noted: ‘With this transaction, KPN has decided not to invest further in the Belgian B2B market, given the generally highly unfavourable competitive environment.’ The sale is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2010.
