iiNet indicates it may move customers to NBN

Australian broadband provider iiNet has become one of the first operators to publicly announce that it will consider moving its customers on to the forthcoming National Broadband Network (NBN), Business Day reports. According to comments by Steve Dalby, iiNet’s government and regulatory chief, the operator may move some of its customers in Tasmania across to the government’s new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure as soon as the middle of 2010, although he noted: ‘We’re not making a public announcement, but it’s not a problem for me to say when the NBN starts to provide services to retail organisations like ours, that we want to participate in that process…What we’re working to is a timetable of around about the middle of next year. We’re not looking at putting TV ads in Hobart next month or anything. We’ve got plenty of time to work that through and get services running before the middle of next year.’
