Deutsche Telekom (DT) is looking for a strategic partner for its US unit T-Mobile USA as the company prepares for 4G evolution, Reuters reports, citing German daily Handelsblatt. As reported by CommsUpdate in October, the cellco is still to reveal its plans for 4G deployment, DT CFO Timotheus Hoettges said the company could enter into a strategic partnership, wait for the FCC to auction off more licences or buy concessions from a third party. In September the firm was connected to network sharing deals with WiMAX operator Clearwire and MetroPCS, which is developing a network based on Long Term Evolution (LTE), but Hoettges has said the company has not committed itself to either platform for its 4G rollout, ‘That is not yet decided. We have to consider all options.’ The company had previously been linked to a takeover of rival cellco Sprint Nextel, but denied the speculation. Handelsblatt also reported that T-Mobile is considering partnerships with mobile giant AT&T or a financial investor to support its expansion plans.
