German telecoms operator Deutsche Telekom (DT) has bought Strato, the webhosting unit of freenet, for EUR275 million in cash. According to Reuters, DT reportedly beat rival bids from private equity company Bridgepoint Capital and one other strategic investor at the end of October. In a move to focus its business activities on mobile communications and mobile internet services, freenet also sold its DSL business to ISP United Internet (1&1) in May 2009.
