Vietnamese wireless operator Vinaphone, which is controlled by state-owned national PTO Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT), has joined the Conexus Mobile Alliance, expanding the Asian organisation’s customer footprint to over 240 million mobile subscribers. ‘VinaPhone is proud to join the ten established member operators of the Conexus Mobile Alliance to develop and enhance mobile data services across Asia while improving overall customer experience and satisfaction,’ commented Lam Hoang Vinh, vice-president of VNPT and MD of Vinaphone, adding, ‘We look forward to working closely with Alliance members on delivering more convenient and peace-of-mind mobile data services for our business travellers from Vietnam to the rest of Asia.’

According to the alliance, the customers of Conexus’ members, which include India’s BSNL and MTNL, South Korea’s KT Corporation and SMART Communications of the Philippines, will soon be able to enjoy a SMS roaming one-rate of USD0.20 per message when they roam on the networks of other members. The alliance has also announced a partnership with NTT Communications to deliver a comprehensive hosted exchange programme for multinational corporations looking to expand their operations in Asia. The new service will enable corporations to set up their e-mail servers and mobile tariff plans quickly and easily in any country with a Conexus member presence.
