Tata TeleServices (TTSL) has announced that it has once again expanded its GSM network, bringing to fourteen the number of circles where it has launched commercial GSM services under the Tata DoCoMo banner. The latest two regions to join the company’s burgeoning coverage area are Uttar Pradesh West (UP West) and Uttar Pradesh East (UP East), and the telco claimed that, at launch, its network in the latter circle is more expansive than any other operator. Initially TTSL will have coverage in 307 towns and cities, and 14,000 villages in UP East, with the infrastructure also spanning 834km along the state’s highways, including airport coverage, with a further 1,096km of rail routes and tourist hotspots also covered. In the UP West circle the cellco will offer services in 198 towns and 2,804 villages initially, with 1,610km and 1,396km of railways also in range for service.
TTSL also reiterated that it expects to complete its pan-India GSM rollout by the end of 2009. Alongside both UP West and UP East, TTSL already offers GSM-based services in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Calcutta, Bihar and Punjab.
