Chilean telco Entel posted a 4% drop in net profit in the first nine months of 2009 thanks to a 45% decrease in mobile interconnection charges that were adjusted in January, the company said in a statement. Net profit was CLP102 billion (USD205 million) compared to CLP106 billion in the same period of 2008. Revenues rose 3% to CLP736 billion year-on-year. EBITDA rose 2% to CLP298 billion, boosted by the fixed line business. Entel’s mobile business, Entel PCS, saw a 5% increase in subscribers to 6.13 million, equivalent to a market share of 39%; post-paid clients rose 12% to reach 31% of the total subscriber base, compared to 29% at end-September 2008. Broadband subscriptions rose 112% to 207,000.
