AzQtel to expand WiMAX across provinces

Azerbaijan-based WiMAX operator AzQtel, which currently provides wireless broadband internet services in the capital Baku and the Absheron peninsula, has revealed that it is expanding its network across provincial regions, according to The company said that its coverage area currently includes Baku city, Mardakan, Shuvelan and the Shimal Thermal Power Plant, and that WiMAX services will soon become accessible in areas including Ganja. AzQtel launched commercial WiMAX services to the general public in September 2008 over a network supplied by US-based Cisco; the broadband operator was established by Qtel Global Networks of the UK and domestic company TransCaspian Telecom in 2005. Alongside its expansion plans, AzQtel also announced that it has raised its maximum internet connection speed to 2Mbps.
