South Korea’ first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) could launch commercial services as early as January 2010, according to industry sources, the Korea Herald reports. Earlier this week KT Corp said it was preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding with local mobile content developer Entaz with a view to collaborating on MVNO-related issues; under the terms of the deal it is understood that Entaz will initially develop a mobile portal for download by KT subscribers that will enable users to buy games and other mobile content including comics.
The revelation follows news in September 2009 that the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) was considering allowing the introduction of MVNOs as part of measures designed to reduce call charges.
