Vietnamobile launches EDGE mobile internet service

Hanoi Telecom Company, which provides wireless services under the Vietnamobile banner, has introduced pre- and post-paid mobile internet services on its EDGE network, Saigon GP Daily reports. Subscribers require a USB modem supplied by Chinese equipment supplier Huawei to access the new offering. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Vietnamobile commercially launched its GSM network in April 2009 and had managed to sign up 1.019 million subscribers by the end of the following September. During the third quarter of 2009 the company installed around 1,100 base stations, bringing its total to 2,600.
