Telekom Austria considers reorganisation plan

13 Nov 2009

According to a report by Reuters, Telekom Austria is considering a plan to combine its fixed line and mobile units, a move designed to cut operating costs and provide a structure geared towards the future integration of fixed and mobile services. The prospective merger reflects a growing trend amongst European telcos, with operators such as Deutsche Telekom having previously taken such measures to help cut costs and tap into additional revenue. Telekom Austria separated its mobile and fixed line divisions three years ago; a move which was seen by some as preparation for a listing of its mobile arm, Mobilkom. The partly state-owned group said in a statement that its supervisory board had asked management to look into the proposed reorganisation and report back, adding that a decision about such a combination had not yet been made.
