Swisscom’s net revenue for the first nine months of 2009 fell by 1.8% to CHF8.93 billion (USD8.85 billion) while its EBITDA slipped 1% to CHF3.58 billion. However, operating income (EBIT) rose by 4.3% to CHF2.15 billion while net income climbed 16.6% to CHF1.53 billion. Italian subsidiary Fastweb increased net revenue (in local currency) by 10%; excluding Fastweb Swisscom’s sales fell by CHF220 million, as a result of continued price erosion in its domestic market. Capital expenditure for the first nine months fell by CHF50 million to CHF1.31 billion while net debt was reduced by CHF526 million to CHF9.38 billion. Swisscom’s broadband customer base grew by 4.5% year-on-year to 1.798 million at the end of September while its customer base for its IPTV service Bluewin TV almost doubled from 95,000 to 186,000 over the same time frame. Swisscom’s mobile customer base increased by a net 259,000 in the twelve months to 30 September 2009 to 5.54 million, in part as a result of the launch of Apple’s iPhone 3GS which Swisscom began selling on 19 June.
