US WiMAX specialist Clearwire has announced that it added 44,000 net new customers to its networks in the third quarter of 2009, with a total customer base of 555,000 30 September 2009, up from 469,000 a year earlier. The company successfully expanded its mobile WiMAX network coverage to over ten million people by the end of the quarter and is on track to reach 30 million by year-end. Revenues for the period were up 13% year-on-year, from USD60.84 million in Q308 to USD68.81 million a year later. However, the firm’s expensive deployment programme saw the company report an operating loss of USD291.33 million for the three months ended 30 September 2009, up 33% from USD219.29 million in 2008. Net loss attributable to Clearwire widened by 13% year-on-year to USD82.43 million for Q309.

Meanwhile, the company announced that, with support from parent company Sprint, it has launched a USD1.56 billion high yield bond offer to replace and expand the company’s credit facility and fund ongoing deployments.
